Silencing the Scientist

Tyrone Hayes, a scientist at UCal-Berkeley was hired by Novartis (which later became Syngenta) to study Atrazine, a weed-killer widely used on corn crops, lawns, and golf courses. He found in that study and many later ones with other scientists, that Atrazine causes sexual problems in amphibians, mammals, birds, fish. It is considered an endocrine disrupter (things that screw up your hormones). Needless to say, Syngenta did not like the results of the study they funded because the obvious implications for humans would impact their ability to make a profit for their shareholders, so they refused to allow publication of his results and subsequently went on to terrorize Hayes and his family for years. Truly disturbing.
